Kalash Island Tiger Project in South 24 Parganas, is a part of Sundarbans National Park that lies at the estuary of the River Matla. Being very close to the core area of the forest visitors are allowed to the beach only with armed forest guards. Royal Bengal Tigers are seen here as they come to this area to drink sweet water in the pond near the camp. During winters, it is the breeding ground of the olive ridley turtles that arrive in great numbers on this beach for nesting. Kalash Island is also the home to many varieties of coastal birds .

The best time to visit Kalash Island is during winter when the temperature remains pleasant and winter is also the breeding time of olive ridley turtles.

To reach Kalash Dweep (Kalash Island) you need to go to Ramganga via Diamond Harbour – Kulpi road by a bus or a car. From there you can hire a boat to reach Kalash Dweep and keep it in mind that you will need to reach before the high tide comes. You may also reach via Bidyadhari River from “Bonnie Camp”. Enter the Chulkati channel and it will take you to the Kalash Camp.

The place is a heaven for the bird watchers. Large variety of birds make Kalash Island a favourite destination for bird watchers. There is also a chance of getting a glimpse of the great Royal Bengal Tiger as they come often to taste the sweet water in the pond near the camp. You can hire a boat and visit the beautiful Bonnie Camp, which is located on a pretty island just opposite to the Kalash Island. You can also visit the Crocodile Project at Bhagbatpur.
